The Wall Street Journal interviewed our clients the Liao family about the loss of their three-year-old daughter, and the challenges crash victims face in seeking justice.
On Oct. 6, 3-year-old Allison Liao was walking home from the grocery store with her grandmother in Flushing, Queens. As they crossed Main Street, a Nissan SUV, turning left from a side street, struck and killed Allison.
The driver, identified by police as Ahmad Abu-Zayedeh, 44 years old, was issued summonses for failing to yield and failing to exercise due care, New York City authorities said. On Jan. 30, Queens County District Attorney Richard Brown described the accident as a “tragedy” and said he wouldn’t bring charges.
Allison’s mother, Amy Tam-Liao, said she was astounded Mr. Abu-Zayedeh was “able to drive, unbelievably, after taking a life away.”
