Gothamist: Cyclist Accuses Law Enforcement Agent Of Hit & Run

Motor vehicles kill and injure cyclists (and pedestrians) with alarming frequency in New York City. It’s an all-too-common experience that filmmaker Sam Newman went through on Thursday when he was hit by a blue sedan and dragged across a lane at the intersection of 15th Street and 10th Avenue in Manhattan. But this wasn’t just any blue car: Newman believes it was some sort of law-enforcement agent.

“This law-enforcement officer has really put Sam into an impossible situation by speeding off after hitting him,” Newman’s lawyer, Steve Vaccaro, told us. “It’s a strange problem” they’re dealing with now, because they don’t know exactly what agency they need to request information from. To begin with, they’re making a Freedom of Information request to the NYPD and NY state police.
